Nancy is world-famous for its architectural ensemble registered on the world heritage of the Humanity by the UNESCO since 1983 (Stanislas square, the square of the Career and the square of Alliance). Completely renewed, embellished and pedestrian, Stanislas square is considered as one of the most beautiful places of the world. The works of embellishment of the square ended in May, 2005: the pavement of origin have been reproduced at the closest, with its black diagonals which still structure the space; the gilts of bars, Stanislas's statue, all the ornamental elements were finely restored so that each visitor can take advantage completely of all the harmony of this architectural jewel of the XVIIIth century. More than ever place of user conviviality and party, for youngs as for the the elder, the square found again, two and a half centuries after its inauguration, all its brightness of origin. We can speak here about three, even about four cities: - The old City of medieval period and revival, around the Main street and around the palace of the dukes of Lorraine, - The New City, that of Charles III built in the end of the XVIth century in the South of the first one - The exceptional architectural ensemble built in the middle of the XVIIIth century by Stanislas to connect these two cities - Finally, the school districts of Nancy, from the end of the XIXth and the beginning of XXth centuries, or isolated elements in the middle of older districts, graceful surprises hiden in a street or a garden, which it is necessary to find outside of the historic complex of the first three cities. Nancy is also a gastronomic city. Specialities or local products made its reputation, everybody knows the bergamot orange and the macaroon, the quiche and the cherry plums, naturally, but it is necessary to discover and to enjoy also numerous regional receipts, often accompanied with history and with anecdotes which still add to their flavour. It is a city of art and alive, national-wide culture, with an opera, a ballet, a symphony and lyric orchestra, an arts centre for theatre. It welcomes 45 000 students and researchers for three universities. It is an attractive and dynamic city within a town of 330 000 inhabitants rapidly expanding, a green city which puts a lot into the long-sustainable environment, which evolves permanently. In brief, it is a stage for all, all the ages and all the public: culture, heritage, walks, museums, sciences and botany, lifestyle, gastronomy, Nancy answers all the urges.
